Road to Vegas 2- Battle of the Bands
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – 111 3rd St. – Thursday, February 2nd, 2017- 8:00pmPORT NOCTURNALPort Nocturnal was started September 2015 in Sioux City, Iowa by Zach Pickens (guitar), Seth Wozny (vox), Grace Claeys (drums), Spencer Aspleaf (guitar) and Alex Emery (Bass) later resigned and was replaced by Layne Medema. The band’s sound can be described as a postmodern Midwestern Desert Rock, with elements of Blues, Psychedelic, Progressive/Art Rock and improvisational music ala jazz informing their grooves and timbres. As a unit sincerely dedicated to the power of the groove and making high quality music, with the first album coming mid 2016, they are bound to end up on quite a roll making ever the more buttery jams for audiences.

Bringing mellow and good vibes with a little bit of hip hop to set the pace.

Jordan Clark

Joe Fry Jacob “Thunderchief” Henry

Out of the cornfields of Northwest Iowa we took the best available options and applied Dave Kramer’s ruralist philosophy and glued it all together and got this. And it’s amazing.

TESLA formed in 1984 in Sacramento as City Kidd, and was renamed TESLA during the recording of their first album, 1986’s Mechanical Resonance, on the advice of their manager that City Kidd was not a great name (in addition, there was already another band going by that name). The band derived their name, certain album and song titles, and some song content from events relating to inventor and electrical engineer NIKOLA TESLA.

The band’s lineup features lead vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarists Frank Hannon and Dave Rude, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta.

TESLA’s music is often referred to as heavy metal, but is better described as blues metal. The band’s lyrics also strayed from the themes popular in heavy metal, particularly in the 1980’s at the beginning of their career. A further distinction from their contemporaries was their blue-collar, T-shirt-and-jeans image which was in strong contrast to glam bands of the time, which were characterized by big hair, leather pants, and flashy makeup.

During the early years of their career, TESLA toured with David Lee Roth, Def Leppard, and Aerosmith. TESLA will again be joining their good friends in Def Leppard and Styx this summer as they tour the United States.

It’s been said that lightning never strikes the same place twice. However, it does in the case of Tesla. Over the course of their thirty-year career, the critically acclaimed iconic Sacramento melodic hard rock quintet—Frank Hannon [guitar], Brian Wheat [bass], Jeff Keith [lead vocals], Troy Luccketta [drums], and Dave Rude [guitar]—sold more than 25 million albums and performed to sold out crowds across the world. Their journey kicked into high gear with 1986’s platinum-certified debut, Mechanical Resonance, which solidified them as a household name and yielded signature anthems such as “Little Suzi,” “Modern Day Cowboy,” “Cumin’ Atcha Live,” and “Gettin’ Better.” Celebrating the record’s 30th birthday, the boys from Sacramento unleash Mechanical Resonance Live! which was released on August 26, 2016 (Tesla Electric Company Recordings/Mailboat/Frontiers).
