Be Yoga Studio -1101 4th St. – Saturday, March 18th, 2017- 1:00pm

Be moved, be loved, be kind, be active, be wise…
We all crave to be more than we are. It’s our human condition- we strive, we see goals, we fail, we achieve.
But when we set goals, we attach ourselves to arriving at the outcome rather than the journey there. We focus on how our life could look rather than how it feel. This workshop is designed to let you dig deep, listen, hear the heart, plant the seeds of intention, and let them flourish and grow in the process.**Included, and not limited to: planting flowers, tea, vision boards, sunshine, meditation, exploration, heart opening, nidra, and creative expression.

Saturday, March 18, 1:00 – 4:00.

Road to Vegas 2- Battle of the Bands
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – 111 3rd St. – Thursday, February 23rd, 2017- 8:00pm- 21+SCARLET CANARY

“Scarlet Canary isn’t your ordinary little bird…” – Metal Recon

“Maddox and the crew wear their hearts on their sleeve, leaving their songs dripping with emotion.” –Colorado Music Buzz

With their most recent release of their album ‘Arise’ the band has been doing just that, rising through the ranks of the regional music scene. Early tours in the Midwest with Stitched Up Heart and City of the Weak generated the momentum that sparked a number of US Headlining tours going as far west as California and as far east Pennsylvania. 2016’s Tour Schedule consisted of 92 shows across 21 states, 46 cities, 47,906 Miles and 65 days’ worth of drive time. This tour history has earned the band performances with Skillet, Saliva, Gemini Syndrome, Lita Ford, and many more.

The band’s talent and work ethic over the last two years on the road has earned sponsorships from Westone in Ear Systems and Spector Bass. Always on time for load in and ready to throw down the band is fronted by the powerful vocals of Hannah Maddox which takes female fronted rock right up to the edge of metal. Deep driving toms and down-tuned guitars with riffs inspired by pop punk and metal core back Hannah’s hard rock driven vocals where it is not uncommon for her to scream at a climatic bridge.

“Arise” was produced by Martin Schroeder of No Heart Studios and had a peak chart position in the top 50 on Radio Contraband’s ‘Under the Radar’ charts in 2016. You can hear Scarlet Canary’s music played on FM Stations from Idaho to Wisconsin. Scarlet Canary’s music can also be found on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music, and all other major online retailers.

“The band members in Scarlet Canary strive to put every ounce of passion and energy they can muster into the group’s live performances.” –Sioux City Journal

The Brothers’ Osborne
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – 111 3rd St. – Friday, February 24th, 2017- 8:00pmYears before they climbed the country charts with songs like “Stay a Little Longer” and “Rum,” the Brothers Osborne grew up in Deale, Maryland, a small fishing town on the Atlantic seaboard. It was a cozy place, filled with blue-collar workers who made their living on the water. During the weekends, many of those workers would head over to the Osborne household, where a series of loose, all-night jam sessions filled the Maryland air with the sounds of Bob Seger, Hank Williams, Tom Petty and George Jones.

The Osborne siblings strummed their first chords during those jam sessions. From the very start, TJ Osborne was the brother with the voice. He sang in a thick, low baritone, crooning like Johnny Cash long before he was even old enough to drive. Older brother John, on the other hand, was the family’s guitar shredder, his fingers capable of down-home bluegrass licks, arena-worthy rock riffs, country twang, and everything in between. Combined, the two Osbornes could play everything from traditional country music to rock & roll, creating a broad, full-bodied sound that would eventually fill the 11 songs on their major-label debut, Pawn Shop.

Like its title suggests, Pawn Shop offers a little bit of everything. There’s bluesy slide guitar, country duets, southern rock solos, harmonies, and plenty of groove. The hooks are big, the guitars are loud, and the songs — every last one of them co-written by the Osbornes, who reached out to award-winning songwriters like Shane McAnally and Ross Copperman for help —introduce a duo whose music bridges the gap between the mainstream and the alternative world.

Their unique path has already led the band toward the upper half of the country charts. “Rum” got them there first, mixing the feel-good sunshine of a beach tune with a far more realistic storyline. There’s no actual beach in “Rum,” after all. Instead, Brothers Osborne turn the song into a tribute to the simple pleasures that their Maryland hometown offers: friends, good weather, and the occasional drink.

A similar theme runs throughout “Dirt Rich” and “Pawn Shop,” two songs that stress the importance of appreciating what you’ve got. Pawn Shop dishes up plenty of love songs, too, from “Loving Me Back” — an old-school country duet featuring vocals from Lee Ann Womack — to “Stay a Little Longer,” the band’s biggest hit to date.

Brothers Osborne, who co-produced the album with Jay Joyce (the award-winning producer behind Little Big Town’s Painkiller, Eric Church’s The Outsiders, and Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller), recorded most of Pawn Shop during breaks in their busy touring schedule, using members of their own touring band rather than session musicians from the Nashville community. The result is an album that’s stamped with the unmistakable mark of a band. It doesn’t sound like two singers, flanked by anonymous players. Instead, it sounds like a group of road warriors who’ve spent years sharing bus seats and hotel rooms, creating the sort of chemistry that can’t be faked. Pawn Shop is both raw and real, and Brothers Osborne — who, years after those household jam sessions in Deale, now have a handful of nationwide tours under their belts, songs on the charts, and a career on the rise — are no longer a family secret.

Must be 21 or older to attend.

Marty Stuart

Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – 111 3rd St. – Friday, February 17th, 2017- 8:00pm

If you were to give country music an address, you might say it’s at the corner of sacred and profane, two doors up from the blues and folk, and just across the street from gospel, R&B and rock ‘n’ roll. And on a deeper emotional and spiritual level, it resides where Saturday night meets Sunday morning. No one understands these coordinates better than Marty Stuart. For over forty years, the five-time Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, photographer and historian has been building a rich legacy at this very crossroads. On his latest release with his band The Fabulous Superlatives, the double-disc Saturday Night & Sunday Morning, Stuart captures all the authentic neon and stained-glass hues of country music – from love and sex to heartache and hardship to family and God – in twenty-three tracks.

Be Yoga Studio – 1101 4th St. – Saturday, February 18th, 2017- 8:00am

Join Jackie on this teacher training weekend to get a special look into the sister science of yoga, “Ayurveda”.

The traditional science of Ayurvedic medicine is designed to bring the body back into balance so it can heal itself. It is a Vedic science which, like yoga, has only one purpose: to expose the illusion and neediness of the mind and become free.

In this workshop, you will learn how the natural elements relate to our own bodies, minds and every day living. We will learn how to use this wisdom to balance the self on all levels – mind, body and spirit.

This workshop will be held on a Saturday from 8:15 AM – 2:30 PM. It will include a Hot Yoga Class right away in the morning followed by a day of discussion. Please bring your lunch!

{be}Studio is collaborating with Sarah Ann Photography to bring women an opportunity to explore their sensuality and their sexuality in a safe and supportive environment.

It is a time when women are becoming more empowered to show up, share their voice and express their bodies in ways that have been previously looked down upon. Our bodies, our femine nature and sexuality is a sacred part of our lives and it is something to explore and share with those we love and trust, not something to fear and hide.

This session can be done in whatever format you choose – whether it is in your favorite outfit or completely in the raw naked form! It can be done with your partner or maybe your truest essence is as an expecting mother. There is no right or wrong here – it is all you! You will receive a private online gallery of your images from the session to have with you but the real gift will be in the experience as you realize just how divine your essence is!

Each participant will also receive a shirt of their choice from the Yoga and Body Image Colaition’s Yoga is for Every Body campaign!http://ybicoalition.com/

The sessions will be $100 and all proceeds will go towards the organization: “Off the Mat Into the World”.

Tesla
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – 111 3rd St. – Friday, February 3rd, 2017- 8:00pm

TESLA formed in 1984 in Sacramento as City Kidd, and was renamed TESLA during the recording of their first album, 1986’s Mechanical Resonance, on the advice of their manager that City Kidd was not a great name (in addition, there was already another band going by that name). The band derived their name, certain album and song titles, and some song content from events relating to inventor and electrical engineer NIKOLA TESLA.

The band’s lineup features lead vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarists Frank Hannon and Dave Rude, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta.

TESLA’s music is often referred to as heavy metal, but is better described as blues metal. The band’s lyrics also strayed from the themes popular in heavy metal, particularly in the 1980’s at the beginning of their career. A further distinction from their contemporaries was their blue-collar, T-shirt-and-jeans image which was in strong contrast to glam bands of the time, which were characterized by big hair, leather pants, and flashy makeup.

During the early years of their career, TESLA toured with David Lee Roth, Def Leppard, and Aerosmith. TESLA will again be joining their good friends in Def Leppard and Styx this summer as they tour the United States.

It’s been said that lightning never strikes the same place twice. However, it does in the case of Tesla. Over the course of their thirty-year career, the critically acclaimed iconic Sacramento melodic hard rock quintet—Frank Hannon [guitar], Brian Wheat [bass], Jeff Keith [lead vocals], Troy Luccketta [drums], and Dave Rude [guitar]—sold more than 25 million albums and performed to sold out crowds across the world. Their journey kicked into high gear with 1986’s platinum-certified debut, Mechanical Resonance, which solidified them as a household name and yielded signature anthems such as “Little Suzi,” “Modern Day Cowboy,” “Cumin’ Atcha Live,” and “Gettin’ Better.” Celebrating the record’s 30th birthday, the boys from Sacramento unleash Mechanical Resonance Live! which was released on August 26, 2016 (Tesla Electric Company Recordings/Mailboat/Frontiers).

Pearl Street Park and Donor Unveiled- Public Meeting October 25th- 7pm

The City of Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public meeting to unveil the proposed design for a new park in downtown Sioux City on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. The new greenspace, located at 620 Pearl Street, will be known as “Pearl Street Park”.

The addition of downtown greenspace is a priority of City Council. A modest $50,000 was allocated in the FY 17 Capital Improvement Plan budget for park development. The

Parks and Recreation Department worked with students in the Urban and Regional Planning department at the University of Iowa earlier this year to develop a long-term vision for the park project as part of a greenspace study with the City, SIMPCO and Downtown Partners. The University of Iowa students developed two park design concepts. These concepts were shared with a local supporter who is an outstanding advocate of quality of life initiatives in the Sioux City metro. The Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce that Regina Roth has pledged $500,000 towards the park project. This project would not have been possible without her very generous support. The contribution made it possible for the City to hire SmithGroupJJR of Madison, Wisconsin, a landscape architect firm, to develop a preliminary design for the park.

SmithGroupJJR worked with the Parks and Recreation Department staff and a group of stakeholders to fine-tune the concepts developed by the University of Iowa students. The City anticipates Pearl Street Park will become a popular destination in the downtown area for multiple users. It is conveniently located across from the LaunchPAD Children’s Museum and Ho-Chunk’s new market rate housing units. Once completed, the park will help attract customers of Food Truck Fridays, which was staged around the perimeter of the future park on 7th Street this summer. These are just a few of the many local programs and businesses that will benefit from the park project. “The City has been working on bringing greenspace into the downtown area for several years and we are extremely excited to see it coming to fruition,” said Matt Salvatore, Parks and Recreation Director. “Not only are we adding much needed greenspace to this dense commercial area, we are developing a beautification project that will enhance the area and create a unique urban experience.”

Due to the generosity of Regina Roth, the dream of a public park in downtown will soon become a reality. Construction could begin in the spring, 2017. Interested citizens are welcome to learn more about the project by attending a public meeting on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, 7:00 p.m., City Hall, 5th Floor Council Chambers, 405 6th Street.
