Downtown Partners is proud to announce the first Alley Art Festival in Sioux City on Saturday, September 21st, from 1 p.m. – 11 p.m. This first-of-its-kind street art festival provides local artists with a platform to show their skills, by creating murals in the alleyways between 4th, 5th, Pierce and Nebraska Streets.
The Alley Art Festival was created to reinvent urban spaces and is part of Downtown Partners’ ongoing effort to enhance walkability between the Historic 4th and the Historic Pearl districts. Brent Stockton, local promoter for Vangarde Arts states, “We hope to make the Alley Art Festival an annual event for downtown Sioux City. Vangarde Arts is a non-profit center that magically blends visual art with performing art in an open and inviting atmosphere. Our event invites local artist to revitalize designated walls through unique and creative street art.”
The public is invited to come stroll through the alleys and watch as artist create multiple murals on the walls. Pieces will range in size from 36 square feet to over 144 square feet of painted spaces. There will also be a wall for the community to join in the fun and paint a piece for the festival. Food and beverages are available for purchase and live music will be filling the alleys throughout the day. Later in the evening, we will welcome Studebaker John and The Hawks back to Sioux City as they take the stage until 11:00 p.m. Admission is only $5 at the gate.
Mark your calendars and explore a completely different side of downtown Sioux City!
