Recovery Dharma : Open Gathering
Recovery Dharma is a program of empowerment and doesn’t ask us to believe in anything other than our own potential to change and heal. We have found a guide for our recovery in the Buddhist teachings of the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, and we invite you to investigate these practices and principles as tools for your own path of liberation from the suffering of addiction. Who here has suffered? If anyone knows about suffering, it’s people affected by addictive habits. We’ve tried to quit repeatedly, yet the cycle persists. But there’s hope. The Buddha saw a clear way out of the cycle of suffering and developed the Four Noble Truths, which are the foundation of our program. They summarize the causes of suffering but also a way of ending suffering. Yet despite being called “Truths,” the Buddha famously told his followers not to blindly believe him! He said test them. Verify them. Only believe them once you directly experience them to be true. At Recovery Dharma, we learn to gently investigate the underlying causes of our substance and process addictions, which we’ve often found rooted in pain and trauma. May all beings be free from suffering. What to expect: Opening RD readings Introductions Guided Meditation Buddhist reading Open sharing Close.
About Casey Lee:
Hi everyone, my name is Casey. Recovery Dharma and its principles and practices have enhanced my life and recovery from addiction (drugs, alcohol, sex, love, sugar, nicotine, trauma, toxic relationships, etc…). It has increased my compassion for myself and others. The group of people that attends the gathering is called a “Sangha”, which is a community of wise friends. (don’t worry, if you can read this, you are wise 🙂 ) I have been a part of an online Sangha for about a year and have benefited immensely. There is a lot of love, compassion, and growth shared among us. We learn these practices and principles, and then we put them into practice in our daily lives. I felt the pull to start an in-person gathering and I hope you join us.
