Construction SUX

Starting Monday, August 12, traffic along Pierce Street between 4th Street and 5th Street will be impacted due to the replacement of the watermain. During this period, on-street parking will be prohibited, and traffic will be reduced to one lane.

Despite the construction, local businesses remain open and ready to welcome you! Don’t miss out on catching your new favorite band at Vangarde Arts, enjoying a drink and a round of mini golf at The Boat House, and supporting Access Systems, Short Staffed, Sooland Boxing Club, and Smith and McElwain Law Offices.

Project Overview

The City of Sioux City is undertaking the replacement of the watermain, reconnecting limited water service lines, and performing street and sidewalk paving along Pierce Street from 4th to 5th Street. This construction is set to start in mid-August and will be completed in a single phase, with traffic maintained on Pierce Street at all times. Sidewalks will remain accessible for pedestrians.

Parking: On-street parking will be prohibited within the construction zone, and adjacent blocks may also be impacted. Additional signed handicap parking will be provided on 4th Street. Public parking is available at MLK and Rivers Landing parking ramps (the first hour is free!).

Sidewalks: Sidewalks will stay open for pedestrian access to all businesses within the construction area.

Water Service Interruptions: The contractor will notify area businesses at least 48 hours in advance of any planned water outages, which may last up to 4 hours for connections to the new water main.

The contract for this project was awarded to SuBSurfco, LLC earlier this summer.
