On March 26, 2022, artists, musicians, photographers, jewelers, and hundreds of guests gathered in the skywalks for the first-ever Gallery in the Sky Art Festival! The festival included a juried gallery show, a vendor hallway, a bridge bar, live painting of the ‘Enchanted Forest’, and the unveiling of 4 new murals!
The Gallery Show
The Gallery Show included 36 pieces from 24 local artists. Paintings, drawings, collages, and more were proudly displayed above the streets of Sioux City. The juried show resulted in three winners, third place was awarded to Sheri Hobart, second place to Kitty Hart, and first place was awarded to Mike Jones, who proudly holds the title of Art Skywalker (Best in Show)! Congratulations to all the artists selected to be a part of such a fun event!
The Vendor Hallway & Bar
There was a total of 20 vendors selling handmade pieces including graphite drawings, jewelry, framed pictures, and so much more. Guests were able to grab a drink from the Bridge Bar and browse the incredible selection of hand-crafted goodies.
The Enchanted Forest
The newest 48-foot-long mural, painted by Kitty Hart (Kitty Kitty Bang Bang) and Jessica Hammond (Brutal Doodles), was signed by volunteers that helped bring the vision to life. The Enchanted Forest will be completed shortly and is on display for everyone to enjoy!
Gallery Murals
Four art galleries in the downtown district were selected to paint a mural: Gallery 103, 3 Rivers Gallery, Vangarde Arts, and Art SUX. After the murals were finished, members of the Carpenters Union Local 948 built custom frames for each one. The framed murals are completed and can be found in the skywalks above Pierce Street.
Thank you, Siouxland!
We are overwhelmed with the amount of support from the community and can’t wait to see how this event evolves in the future!
